What is lig coracoacromiale?

The ligament coracoacromiale is a small, triangular ligament that spans from the coracoid process of the scapula to the acromion, which is a bony process projecting from the scapula. It forms part of the acromioclavicular joint capsule and provides stability to the joint. The ligament also acts as a roof, preventing the supraspinatus muscle from rubbing against the acromion during arm abduction. In some cases, the coracoacromial ligament can become thickened or injured, leading to shoulder impingement syndrome. Surgery may be required to relieve the symptoms in such cases.
